Special Bags and Cases for Scientists

Research scientists and engineers who have to travel often and who frequently end up in places that do not cater for all of their needs are probably going to be more experienced at planning a trip than many of us. This is because they might be going out to conduct a survey, collect and monitor data or simply doing the job they have been employed to do. Maybe you are in the middle of a bridge using an anemometer or in some strange train station somewhere in the countryside, a village where they don't know anyone in particular, a farm, a jungle or even on a mountain. I am simply trying to paint a picture in people's minds by these examples because you never know where you might end up and what you might need to bring with you in order to successfully carry out your work or complete your project. I am going to show some special bags and cases. Some of you might be familiar with one of them but probably not all of them. There are so many types of bags and purses and maybe a lot of civilians are worried about their iPaD purse but  these have all been designed for different applications which help people to protect their equipment and make life easier and so I believe that all of them are pretty smart ideas.

The first one on my list is the indestructible Carry Case made by a company well known to many scientists and engineers called "Pelican." I have personally conducted my own tests on theses cases and I know that the following video is telling the truth. Apart from being lockable they also have a vent which makes sure that pressure does not build up inside since they are pretty much seal tight. These cases are so tough that you won't need to worry about breaking a field instrument by using one of them. If you manage to do break them I guess the manufacturer would want to know about it because they seem to take a lot of pride in the fact that their cases are extremely tough and indeed they are!

The picture above shows a young man using luggage that is also innovative and was designed to protect what is inside the bag by sponge type material on one side. You can see this in the picture but you cannot see the other side which is actually a hard surface and acts as a table or a tray. I don't know about you but I have often been in strange places where I have not been able to find a writing surface to take notes and if I have known about this bag previously I would not be having any problem whatsoever because the tray/table is perfect for this purpose. Someone can also benefit from this bag if they do not have a table to eat or drink on. The design in the picture is showing their ergonomically designed model which fits on your lap but also hugs the shape of your lower body when seated. There are also applications where disabled people in wheelchairs have found this very useful as a Laptop Bag and a Portable Tray. There are two versions and if you watch the first half of the video below you will see how someone is writing and drinking off of it.

This bag is really unique because it has a built in flow meter.  If you are out in the bush or in the countryside or some remote hill location and you are camping, then the amount of water you have left might be something that concerns you. People can plan and fill up their water bags with water but we might not know how much we have been drinking and how much we have left. This bag is a smart idea for those of you who want to keep up your hydration levels.
